As a curly girl in pediatrics residency, life is crazy 98% of the time. There is not much time for long curly hair routines, and if I’m not careful enough, my hair can easily look like a bird’s nest without me even noticing. So these are some of the things that I do to keep those curls looking fresh:
- Hair oiling: I carry a small bottle of hair oil to keek my curls from getting too dry or too tangled as they rub against my scrubs all day. I apply the oil at the ends and at the nape of my neck where my hair gets most tangled. One suggestion is: garnier’s frizz control serum
2. Satin lined surgical caps: some rotations like the NICU require me to keep my hair in a cap to reduce contamination to a minimum. Normal caps however create so much frizz and dry out the curls. So I found the perfect solution: satin caps. They allow me to keep frizz to a minimum while also getting the hair out of the way. Bonus points for those caps created for long haired gals like myself. There are so many beautiful designs out there too.
3. Protective hairstyles: last but not least, a trusty old technique. I love wearing my hair in two braids like in the picture, or in a low bun with a satin scrunchie. One of my favorite hairstyles is puting my hair up in one bubble braid with the top of my hair sleeked back or with two bubble braids at each side of my hair. It looks youthful and matches the peds aesthetic.
And thats about it. Three simple ways to keep your hair looking beatiful even if life is hectic. I hope it helps!
Until my next post,
love, Kath xx
