From one giver to another…
At the ripe age of 28, I have learned that you can’t pour into everyone else’s cup and leave yourself empty. For so long I romantized a life that consisted of me taking care of everyone else. I wanted to give my light to everyone, to leave a positive impact on everyone. I dreamed of living a life of service… to live a Christ-like life. While that is a beautiful goal, it is unrealistic. You really can’t pour from an empty cup.
You have to take care of yourself first. Take time to heal your wounds. And then someday you might realize that maybe you don’t have to work so hard to gain other people’s approval. Your worth IS intrinsic. Maybe you learn that you are worthy of love just as is, flaws and all. You forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made. You start giving yourself the love you so desperatedly tried to give others. Life looks a little brighter and now you allow yourself to love and be loved in a balanced way.
It is not always easy. But at least we can try to show ourselves a little love today. And some more tomorrow. Let’s see where that takes us.
Love, Kath. Xx
